Step 2 - Getting Ready

You are going to an important mission. You need to prepare for that mission mentally and at times physically. Below is list to keep to help you get ready:

  • Get your facts right:

    • You are not alone, many people in the world suffer from OCD and many people learn to overcome it everyday.

    • OCD is your enemy and following your enemy will do you no good

    • Read about the characteristics and learn more about the enemy that you are in battle with. Knowing more about the enemy will help understand the tactics of OCD better and help devise a plan to counter those tactics.

    • Following OCD makes is worse. The only way to defeat OCD is to start breaking free of the OCD cycle. Read this article here

    • OCD will not go on its on. You will have to make an active effort to defeat it.

    • Getting better takes time as is the case with most mental disorders.

    • If you follow the right line of treatment for the recommended time, you will get better

  • Get the blockers out of the way:

    • Inflight rebound: Remember, OCD can try and come back strong while you are on the course of improvement. This is another enemy tactic you need to be weary off so you can recognise its signs and not give in,

    • The secret belief : Don’t think that your OCD is ‘much different’ to others whose success stories you keep on hearing about. OCD has characteristics that are common between sufferers, hence there are lines of treatment that are effective and have proven to work. One or combination of those lines of treatment will work for you.

    • Social Stigmas Scare : There is nothing more important than getting better. If there social stigmas around going to a psychologist or taking psychiatric medications, don’t worry about those. You may not be able to change people’s perception which are very deeply embedded. Once you come out of OCD, you will be a living proof that will shatter the beliefs of those people. So, don’t give in to stigmas, ignore them and if possible fight them !

  • Set aside a time and location

    • Set aside a time where you will go into the battle, the day your life will take a turn for the better

    • Don’t leave it too late. Remember the more time you spend following OCD, the stronger it gets

    • If you live in a place, where there are too many triggers around you physically, try and find a more conducive environment, where its easier for you start winning. You don’t have to change location , all together, this is for the earlier duration of the mission while you are training to break the cycle
